SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN IN THEATER!
The university has made merit-based scholarships available for first year students in theater. We have 4 FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS to offer. They are based on audition and portfolio presentations. To compete for one of these scholarships, the prospective student must apply to the university by the traditional route, and also make an appointment to audition in the case of acting concentration, and interview/present portfolios in the case of directors, and scenic, costume or lighting designers. See specific department requirements below.
In order to be eligible, you must indicate that Theater is your intended major, although you may change that at the beginning of your Sophomore year and still retain the scholarship.
THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO - Spring 2010 (Full Cast)
Acting: Candidates interested in focusing on the Acting concentration need to prepare 2 contrasting monologues, one Shakespeare and one contemporary, not to exceed a total time of 4 minutes. You may also prepare 16 bars of any song, but this is not required. Scholarship auditions will be made on an ongoing basis by contacting the Director of Undergraduate Studies (see final paragraph).
Design: For the design concentration scholarships, a one-page resume of experience in theater or a related field, such as art, architecture, or graphics is needed. Additionally, a statement of intent, even if that statement is exploratory should be provided. Other materials may include a portfolio presentation showing skills in drawing, drafting, computer graphics, etc. The portfolio may be in scrapbook format. Art projects or model making could substitute or be included with the other requirements. The material should be organized into some kind of cohesive presentation, with identifying labels for references. Scholarship presentations will be made on an ongoing basis by contacting the Director of Undergraduate Studies (see final paragraph).
