Written in the early 1600s, with the upheaval of a new ruler on the throne, Measure is considered one of the Bard’s ‘problem plays.’ It defies simple classification, as the play explores whether ideas such as right or wrong, and good or bad, are really that easy to distinguish from one another.

This powerful play is one of the greatest dramas in the American theater. Arthur Miller’s allegorical tale of the dangers of McCarthyism is set against the backdrop of the Salem witch trials, and forces us to ask how far we’ll go as a society in attempting to feel safe.

Director Anders Cato (Red, Crime and Punishment) returns to Cleveland Play House to work for the first time with the CWRU/CPH MFA Acting Program Graduate Ensemble as they explore this universal uncertainty.
