CWRU ’24-’25 MPAC SEASON AUDITION NOTICE

MEN ON BOATS by Jaclyn Backhaus, directed by Eliza Ladd Schwarz

Rehearsals begin January 14th. Show dates February 21st – Mar 2nd

 

COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare, directed by Jeffrey Ullom

Rehearsals will begin February 17th. Show dates April 11th – 20th

 

General Auditions for the Spring semester shows will be held on Monday November 18, beginning at 6:30pm in the Kalberer Theatre at Maltz Performing Arts Center.

Callbacks will be held the following evening Tuesday November 19, beginning at 6:30.

Students should prepare ONE 1-2 minute long fully-memorized monologue. This can be from EITHER a contemporary play or a comedic Shakespeare work. You will be considered for both shows regardless of what you choose to prepare.

While memorized monologues are highly encouraged, non-majors will have the option of cold reading a speech provided at the audition.

Perusal copies of the scripts can be found outside the Acting Studio G76 – MPAC

Casting will be announced via email the morning of Monday Nov 25. Once ALL actors have confirmed roles, a public notice of casting will be available.

Content Notice:

MEN ON BOATS

*All actors cast must be willing to play male characters and speak some profane language. The play is physical.

*The role of Goodman requires a British accent.

*Actors will be asked to name their first and second preference for casting, though they may not be cast in either of these roles.

*For callbacks, actors will be asked to participate in a short group movement practice – all levels of ability and experience welcomed; actors will be asked if they have experience singing or playing an instrument. Some may be asked to share a short bit of acapella singing.

*There will be an optional developmental workshop for the production held in December.

COMEDY OF ERRORS

*Note: There will be some kissing (including a few kisses on lips and cheeks as well as one couple fake making out), dancing (some involving two people swaying together), and broad physical comedy (slaps, hits, and kicks).
